Aluminum Plate

Aluminum plates are rectangular plates rolled from aluminum ingots. They are divided into pure aluminum plates, alloy aluminum plates, thin aluminum plates, medium-thick aluminum plates, and patterned aluminum plates.

  • Aluminum plate is an aluminum material with a thickness of more than 0.2mm and less than 500mm, a width of more than 200mm, and a length of less than 16m, which is called aluminum plate or aluminum sheet.
  • Below 0.2mm is aluminum
  • Widths within 200mm are flat materials or strips (of course, with the advancement of large-scale equipment, there are more aluminum plates with a maximum width of 600mm).

Aluminum Plate Classification

Alloy classification

  • High-purity aluminum plate (rolled from high-purity aluminum with a content of more than 99.9)
  • Pure aluminum plate (components are basically rolled from pure aluminum)
  • Alloy aluminum plate (composed of aluminum and auxiliary alloys, usually aluminum-copper, aluminum-manganese, aluminum-silicon, aluminum-magnesium, etc.)
  • Composite aluminum plate or welded plate (special-purpose aluminum plate material is obtained by combining multiple materials)
  • Aluminum-coated aluminum plate (aluminum plate covered with thin aluminum plate for special purposes)

The aluminum and aluminum alloy group is divided into nine categories. Among them, 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7 series aluminum and aluminum alloys are the main ones, and other series are less likely to be used in actual use.

Thickness classification

Divided by thickness: (unit: mm)

  • Aluminum sheet 0.15-2.0
  • Conventional board (aluminum sheet) 2.0-6.0
  • Aluminum plate 6.0-25.0
  • Aluminum plate 25-200

Anodized aluminum plate

An aluminum plate is formed by placing an aluminum plate in a corresponding electrolyte (such as sulfuric acid, chromic acid, oxalic acid, etc.) as an anode, and electrolysis is performed under specific conditions and applied current. The aluminum plate of the anode is oxidized, and a thin layer of aluminum oxide is formed on the surface. Its thickness is 5 to 20 microns, and the hard anodized film can reach 60 to 200 microns.

Processing technology classification

Aluminum sheets can be processed using a variety of techniques such as rolling, extrusion, casting or forging. Each method produces different properties and surface finishes.

  • 1. Rolled aluminum plate
  • 2. Extruded aluminum plate
  • 3. Cast aluminum plate
  • 4. Forged aluminum plate
  • Rolled aluminum plate

    Commonly used alloys: 1xxx series (pure aluminum), 3xxx series (aluminum manganese), 5xxx series (aluminum magnesium), 6xxx series (aluminum magnesium silicon), 7xxx series (aluminum zinc magnesium), etc.

  • Extruded aluminum plate

    Commonly used alloys: 6xxx series (aluminum magnesium silicon) is one of the most commonly used alloys for extrusion processing. These alloys are suitable for manufacturing aluminum profiles of various shapes.

  • Cast aluminum plate

    Commonly used alloys: Cast aluminum plates usually use alloys such as 2xxx series (aluminum copper) or 7xxx series (aluminum zinc magnesium). These alloys can be used to produce aluminum alloy castings, such as engine parts, automobile wheels, etc.

  • Forged aluminum plate

    Commonly used alloys: 7xxx series (aluminum zinc magnesium) alloy is one of the more commonly used aluminum alloys for forging because of its excellent forging performance and strength. These alloys are often used to produce aircraft structural parts.

The selection of these alloys in various processing technologies is based on their specific properties and processing requirements to ensure that the final product has the required mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and appearance quality.

Aluminum Plate Care and Maintenance

The specific cleaning steps for aluminum plates are as follows:

  1. 1. First rinse the board surface with plenty of water;
  2. 2. Use a soft cloth soaked in detergent diluted with water to gently wipe the board surface;
  3. 3. Rinse the board surface with plenty of water to wash away the dirt;
  4. 4. Check the board surface and clean the areas that are not clean with detergent;
  5. 5. Rinse the board surface with clean water until all the detergent is washed away.

Note: Do not clean the hot board surface (when the temperature exceeds 40 °C), because the rapid evaporation of water is harmful to the paint on the board surface!

Special attention should be paid to choosing appropriate detergent. A basic principle is: be sure to use neutral detergent! Please do not use strong alkaline detergents such as potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate, strong acidic detergents, abrasive detergents and paint-soluble detergents.
