Aluminum Coil

Aluminum coil is a metal product that is subjected to flying shearing after rolling and bending processing in a casting and rolling mill. Aluminum coils are widely used in electronics, packaging, construction, machinery, etc.

Aluminum coil refers to making thin and wide continuous aluminum sheets by passing aluminum blanks through a series of rolling, drawing and other processing processes, and then supplying them in the form of coils. Aluminum coils are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and easy to process, and are widely used in construction, aerospace, automobile manufacturing, electronic products and other fields. They can be used to manufacture various products, such as aluminum alloy plates, aluminum alloy sheets, aluminum alloy coils, aluminum alloy plate coils, etc.

Aluminum coil classification

Aluminum coil classification according to different alloy elements

According to the different metal elements contained in aluminum coils, aluminum coils can be roughly divided into 9 major categories, that is, they can be divided into 9 series

Pure aluminum coil: Made of pure aluminum with no other alloying elements added.

Aluminum alloy coil: Aluminum coil containing other alloy elements, such as aluminum-manganese alloy, aluminum-silicon alloy, etc.

  • 1000 series aluminum coil

These aluminum coils are mainly pure aluminum products containing aluminum, such as 1100 aluminum coils, which have higher purity and are usually used in food packaging, chemical processing equipment, etc.

  • 2000 series aluminum coil

These aluminum coils are usually aluminum products containing copper alloys, such as 2024 and 2014 aluminum coils, which have higher strength and are often used in the aerospace field.

  • 3000 series aluminum coil

These aluminum coils are usually aluminum products containing manganese, such as 3003 and 3004 aluminum coils, which have good corrosion resistance and are often used to be processed into containers, pipes, etc.

  • 4000 series aluminum coil

These aluminum coils are usually silicon-containing aluminum products, such as 4047 aluminum coils, which have good fluidity and corrosion resistance and are suitable for welding and casting.

  • 5000 series aluminum coil

These aluminum coils are usually aluminum products containing magnesium, such as 5052 and 5083 aluminum coils, which have good corrosion resistance and weldability and are commonly used in shipbuilding, automotive parts, etc.

  • 6000 series aluminum coil

These aluminum coils are usually aluminum products containing silicon and magnesium, such as 6061 and 6063 aluminum coils, which have good processability and strength and are often used in construction, mechanical parts, etc.

  • 7000 series aluminum coil

These aluminum coils are usually aluminum products containing zinc, such as 7075 aluminum coils, which have very high strength and are often used in the aerospace field.

  • 8000 series aluminum coil

These aluminum coils are usually aluminum alloy composite materials, such as 8011 aluminum coils, which are commonly used in food packaging, pharmaceutical packaging, etc.

  • 9000 series aluminum coil

In some areas, this series may be used to refer to custom specifications or special purpose aluminum coils, and therefore may not have a unified meaning.

Aluminum coil classification according to the surface treatment process

1. Color coated aluminum coil

This type of aluminum coil is coated with a layer of paint or resin to provide color and extra protection against corrosion. It is widely used in construction materials such as roofing, wall cladding and decorative purposes.

  • Polyester coated aluminum coil
  • Fluorocarbon coated aluminum coil
  • High gloss coated aluminum coil
  • Magnetic coated aluminum coil
  • Imitation wood grain coated aluminum coil

2. Anodized aluminum coil

Anodizing is an electrochemical process that forms a protective oxide layer on the surface of aluminum. Anodized aluminum coils are more resistant to corrosion and wear, and also offer better durability and appearance. They find applications in building elements, automotive parts and electronic housings.

3. Stucco aluminum coil

Stucco embossed aluminum coils feature a raised pattern that resembles an orange peel texture, which not only enhances aesthetics but also adds surface durability and scratch resistance. It is commonly used in refrigeration, insulation and decorative applications.

4. Mirror aluminum coil

Mirror aluminum coils undergo a specialized polishing process to achieve a mirror-like reflective surface. It is used in decorative applications such as interior design, lighting fixtures and signage where a reflective finish is required for aesthetic purposes.

Aluminum coils are classified according to processing technology

Cold rolled aluminum coil

  • Processing technology: Processed by cold rolling process, that is, the aluminum billet is rolled at normal temperature to obtain the required size and surface quality.
  • Features: It has high surface quality and relatively precise dimensions, smooth surface and high material hardness. It is suitable for applications requiring high precision and surface quality.
  • Application: Commonly used in fields such as automotive parts, building materials, and electronic product casings that require high precision and surface quality.

Hot rolled aluminum coil

  • Processing technology: Processed by hot rolling process, that is, the aluminum billet is rolled at high temperature to obtain the required shape and size.
  • Features: It has high plasticity and ductility, and is easy to bend and form, but the surface quality is generally slightly worse than that of cold-rolled aluminum coils.
  • Application: Suitable for applications that require bending, forming or large area coverage, such as pressing, deep drawing, etc.

Coated aluminum coil

  • Processing technology: Apply a protective or functional coating on the surface of the aluminum coil. Common coatings include fluorocarbon coating, polyester coating, etc.
  • Features: While protecting the surface of the aluminum coil, it can also give the aluminum coil other properties, such as corrosion resistance, wear resistance, etc.
  • Application: Widely used in building materials, auto parts, home appliances and other fields to provide protection and aesthetic effects.

Aluminum coils classified by use

  • Aluminum coils for construction: used in the construction industry such as roofs, walls, window frames, etc.
  • Aluminum coil for packaging: used for food packaging, pharmaceutical packaging, etc.
  • Aluminum coils for the electronics industry: used to manufacture electronic product casings, radiators, etc.
  • Aluminum coils for transportation: used in the manufacture of automobiles, airplanes and other means of transportation.
